Not Yet Dead

I’m not yet dead but getting there, it’s said
With a heart thats holed and hollowed out
By lack of care and years of drought
I’m not dead yet but it’s a fair bet
I’m that way heading, bones and sinews set

Not dead like my old man
Don’t sleep in a dead man’s bed
Still swivel in my rocking chair
With my snarly, marbled eyeball stare
Don’t walk in a dead man’s shoes
Still limp the fairway trails
Keeping on, still keeping on
Till my keep on finally fails

I’m not yet dead seems I’m just alive instead
With aching bones that mutter and groan
It’s true that age don’t come alone
I’m not dead yet but years mount like rising debt
There’s a tide threatening to wash me away
Come tomorrow, please don’t come today

Not dead like the old man
Don’t live in a dead man’s house
Still rattle in my empty rooms
Scratch away like Micky Mouse
Don’t wear a dead man’s coat
Or smile a dead man’s smile
I’m keeping on still keeping on
At least for just a while
